Standing out from the crowd, Agapanthus 'Black Arrow' is a striking new cultivar prized for its dramatic deep purple to nearly black flower buds, stems and upright, architectural form. A member of the African Lily family, this deciduous perennial produces tall, slender stems that rise above clumps of narrow, strap-like green leaves. In summer, the buds open to form clusters of dark violet-blue flowers, creating a bold contrast in mixed borders, containers or gravel gardens. Its compact habit, typically reaching around 70cm in height, makes it ideal for smaller spaces or modern landscapes. Thriving in full sun and well-drained soil, with good drought tolerance once established, bees and other pollinators are attracted to the blooms, adding ecological value to its ornamental appeal. Deadheading spent blooms can prolong flowering. Generally low maintenance, with improved winter hardiness on most other varieties, lifting and storing the rhizomes to store over winter is only necessary in the coldest areas.
