Garden Inspiration
Tell Me More...
Allium hollandicum offers robust upright blooms approximately 10cm wide from May through to July each year. This is a new variety to us for 2024 and much loved for its compact flowers held on tall stems up to 1m high. Long, strap-shaped foliage is borne from March, acting as a foil to the bobbing blooms above. Alliums are now considered a garden staple and are easy going as well as attractive to pollinators. These blooms also make a beautiful inclusion in a vase and last up to two weeks when cut fresh. Stems also provide autumnal interest as dried seedheads, either indoors or out. Allium hollandicum prefers a site with well-drained soil of any kind, and a position in full sun. A hardy (H5), bulbous perennial best planted in autumn and equally happy in borders, containers and gravel gardens where they readily naturalise for more plants year on year.
