Erysimum ‘Artist Paintbox’ is a delightfully scented perennial with a full palette of different colours on each plant. Erysimum are well-loved for their long flowering and perfect for cottage gardens, and more modern planting schemes, ‘Paintbox’ is as floriferous as traditional annual wallflowers, without the need to replace each year. A mass of purple buds emerges in spring, opening to reveal dense racemes of yellow-orange, salmon, purple-pink and reddish-purple blooms, which change colour as they mature. Continuing with more blooms through until the autumn above the evergreen foliage, which is a treat to the eyes. Erysimum last up to 10 days when cut for a vase, bringing the gentle scent into your home. ‘Artist Paintbox’ is easy to grow, rabbit resistant, loved by bees and prefers any well-drained soil except heavy clay in sun or partial shade, growing to an approximate full height and spread of 45cm. Erysimum ‘Artist Paintbox’ is a hardy perennial (H5) and will happily survive most winters outside, only needing protection during the very coldest of winters if the soil is not well-drained.
