Tell Me More...
Penstemon, often known as ‘Beard-tongues’, are some of the most versatile, valued, and floriferous perennials you can grow in your garden. Great for cutting, they are also adored by bees, butterflies, and pollinators. A real must have for any garden, flowering for around five months each year above compact, tidy, semi-evergreen foliage. You won't need to battle against slugs and snails either, The ‘Fab 5 Penstemon Collection’ comprises; ‘Apple Blossom’ - small, pink, bell-shaped blooms with white throats, closely resembling the shades of apple tree blossom, height 80cm, spread 60cm; ‘Blackbird’ - large, dark purple, trumpet-shaped blooms are held on strong stems above green semi-evergreen foliage, height 90cm and spread 60cm; ‘Just Jayne’ AGM - tubular, bright rose-pink blooms with streaked white throats, height 70-90cm, spread 45-60cm; ‘Alice Hindley’ – blooms in shades of lilac, mottled with pink tinges, height 1m, spread 45cm; and ‘Snow Storm’ – bright white blooms open from pink-tinged buds, height 75cm, spread 45-60cm. All prefer to be grown in moist, well-drained soil in any aspect which benefits from sun for at least some of the day. Semi-evergreen perennials with a hardiness rating of H4, the foliage will stay over winter, just cut them back in late May.
