Petals of rich yellow intensify to orange, leading bees, butterflies, and summer pollinators to a central landing pad, rich in delicious nectar. From May to August, the delightful and cheerful blooms will add vibrance to garden containers and beds. H&S: 35-45cm x 45-60cm. Plant several Gaillardia plants together for a swathe of rich and uplifting colour. Known as the blanket flower, Gaillardia form a bushy mound of bright green foliage bearing slim stems of showy, open-faced flowers over several months. These tender perennials are native to hot, dry regions of Mexico and South America and thrive in a sun-baked spot, ideally south or west-facing. Feed in spring with balanced liquid fertiliser to keep plants healthy and floriferous and deadhead frequently to encourage a continuous stream of blooms. Prune and compost foliage in autumn and mulch crowns for added protection.
Gaillardias are half-hardy and have an RHS hardiness rating H3
