From the ‘Mariachi series’, Helenium autumnale ‘Sombrero’ is an eager plant which produces densely packed, dark green foliage from March to November each year. In July central buds emerge and unravel into gorgeous, sunny yellow daisy-like blooms which lure in both pollinators and admiring eyes. Like a joyful Mariachi band, these helenium will process their way through the garden adding colour and charisma right through until September time – offering 3 months of flowers for borders, containers, rockeries and vases. Nectar-rich blooms are also a magnet for bees and butterflies. Compact in stature reaching a height and spread of 50cm. Plant Helenium autumnale ‘Sombrero’ in fertile, well-drained soil of any kind and position in full sun with any aspect other than north facing. As a fully-hardy (H7) herbaceous perennial no additional winter protection will be required across the UK. Plants will die back below ground over winter and then return, reinvigorated, the following spring.
