Tell Me More...
Fragrant and fabulous Hosta 'Sugar and Spice' is one of the most popular foliage plants. Large, lush green leaves emerge in spring with irregular cream variegated edges which mature to white, becoming rippled. An attractive, sturdy mound is formed from March to October. In summer, tall stems emerge, each holding many lilac buds which open to reveal fragrant, lily-like blooms. From June to August, the sweet scent will draw in friendly pollinators and can be enjoyed inside too as the blooms make excellent cut flowers, lasting well in a vase. Growing to around 50cm tall, Hosta 'Sugar and Spice' reach about 70cm wide, giving valuable weed-suppressing groundcover. A fully hardy perennial, with an RHS hardiness rating of H7, which will survive all year round outside with no extra protection required. As with other fragrant flowered varieties, Hosta ‘Sugar and Spice’ likes to be in a reasonably sunny spot but will tolerate part shade in moist but well-drained soil.
