Jasminum officinale are vigorous, deciduous climbing shrubs which produce the headiest of fragrances that will be carried through the garden on the summer breezes. The characteristic, white, star-shaped flowers are highlighted by being set against a backdrop of dark green foliage. Jasmine is in its full glory, with flowers, buds, and scent from June to August, with the dark foliage visible from March to September. This is a hardy climbing shrub able to withstand the cold down to -15 C without additional protection. With such a perfume and abundance of flowers, jasmine is attractive to butterflies and bees. Fully grown Jasminum officinale reaches 12m high with a spread of 4m, though you can prune to suit your chosen environment. Plant Jasminum officinale in a sunny, sheltered spot which benefits from moist, well-drained soil and a south or west facing aspect with full sun or partial shade. Happy in containers as well as open ground, perfect for planting near a seating area or entrance.
