This stunning Allium atropurpureum will ensure eye-catching borders or abundant containers from May into June each year. The flowers form a tight-knit, multiheaded sphere of maroon-purple, star-shaped blooms which contrast beautifully with the tall green stems and low-lying foliage below. These ornamentals are sown as a bulb between September-November, producing flowers the following spring-summer and for years beyond. At 75cm tall they are ideal for the middle of borders, creating a beautiful centrepiece for weeks at a time. We recommend leaving the seedheads intact for extended, structural interest during autumn and winter too. In addition, both fresh blooms and seedheads make a valuable inclusion in floral displays. Allium atropurpureum is a hardy (H5), bulbous perennial which prefers well-drained soil of any kind. Position in full sun with some protection from strong winds and any aspect other than north facing. An easy-going plant which can be divided after flowering if clumps
