Tell Me More...
Give your garden the royal treatment by introducing Penstemon 'King George V'. Standing tall, a profusion of scarlet-red, narrow, trumpet-shaped blooms with white streaked throats are held on wiry, dark red stems from late spring, through the summer and well into the autumn. A well-loved member of the hardworking penstemon family, the narrow, glossy, almost willowy, semi-evergreen foliage provides colour and shelter for your local wildlife through the winter. Bees and other pollinators will visit the blooms for a nectar-rich treat, but slugs, snails, rabbits, and deer tend to leave well alone. Penstemon 'King George V' reaches a mature height of 90cm, and spreads 40-60cm. Given an RHS hardiness rating of H4, some protection over winter may be needed if temperatures go below -10 C. Best planted in moist, well-drained soil in a sunny or partially shaded spot, in borders or containers for a regal display.
