Tulips are a symbol of spring and one of the most popular spring bulbs, whether in borders or in containers. As one of the longest lasting cut flowers, they even continue to grow after they have been cut, so cut the stems a little shorter than ultimately required. This ‘Tulip Sorbet Collection’ flowers successionally from march to May and comprises; ‘Apricona’ – a ‘Triumph’ variety, with soft pink-apricot petals , height 40cm; ‘Apricot Beauty’ – a ‘Single Early’ variety, boasting classic, single, cup-shaped blooms in soft shades of apricot and peach, height 45cm; and ‘Budlight’ – a ‘Lily-flowered’ variety, golden, hop-yellow petals gradually fade to foam-white at the tips, height 50cm. Originating from hot, dry habitats, tulips prefer to be grown in fertile, sharply drained soil in full sun and shelter from strong winds. Excessive wet will not be tolerated. Hardy bulbous perennials, deadhead once the blooms are spent and allow foliage to die back naturally, as this restores nutrients to the bulb in preparation for flowering the following year.
